The U.Va. Cornerstone Plan states:
“We will make collaboration an institutional hallmark. We will view collaboration not only as a technique to leverage our size to maximum advantage but also as a critical source of innovation. We will cross boundaries, real or perceived, to work together.”
Sustainability efforts are embedded into U.Va.’s governance, culture, and academics, as well as throughout University operational areas of planning, design, construction, transportation, food service, energy use, water use, and waste.
Collaboration and partnerships are of paramount importance in advancing sustainability at U.Va. All twelve schools within U.Va. include sustainability, there are over 40 student groups focused on sustainability, and there are also several sustainability programs, initiatives, and projects within departments. These include Facilities Management, the Office for Sustainability, the Office of the University Architect, Business Operations, Athletics, the Office of the VP for Research, Human Resources, the Health System, the Office of the Dean of Students, and the Office for Diversity and Equity, and many more.
