Energy and Sustainability Engineer
Job Description: The UVA Office for Sustainability is seeking an Energy and Sustainability Engineer to contribute to developing solutions to meet university-wide goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, and overall environmental stewardship. The Energy and Sustainability Engineer focuses on implementing innovative projects that incorporate best practices in sustainability and conservation in the use of energy, water, raw materials, and other resources through retro-commissioning, energy audits and technical analyses. He/she will identify, vet, and implement projects to improve O&M, enhance building automation and energy management systems through field improvements and software programming, ensuring accurate metering and billing, and advocating for sustainability. The incumbent supports the goals of providing consistent, cost-effective, and efficient use of energy and other natural resources by applying expertise and knowledge of building systems to inspect, evaluate, analyze, and solve complex building mechanical, electrical, controls, and plumbing deficiencies. Working independently, the incumbent supports complex and technical energy programs, in addition to providing guidance to colleagues.
The selected candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree or higher n architecture, landscape architecture, land use planning, environment planning, engineering, or environmental science a minimum of seven ears of related experience, which may include HVAC design, controls engineering, sustainability consulting, LEED certification, etc.

Environmental Stewardship/Sustainable Buildings Student Employee
30-40/week | $15/hour | Supervisor: Jesse Warren
Job Description: The UVA Office for Sustainability is hiring a summer student employee to support the development and implementation of various action plans for meeting UVA’s sustainability goals across topic areas - energy/emissions, renewables, water, waste. This will include benchmarking with other universities, data compilation and analysis, inventories and assessments, creating tools and templates, and other tasks as needed. Although support will be provided through the Office of Sustainability, this internship will require a large amount of self-directed work. Interested students should feel comfortable working independently, seeking out information from a variety of sources, and working with a range of experts across the University to gather the needed information.

Sustainability Student Employee (Student Wage)
Job Description: Sustainability Student Employees are committed to making sustainability part of the UVA community. The students work in teams to address four key areas of sustainability: Recycling, Energy & Water, Student Outreach and UVA Sustainability Promotion. Through various events and programs, the student employees coordinate & communicate the University’s sustainability efforts and educate their peers on ways to be more sustainable. Student employees will work to support the Office for Sustainability’s Outreach, Engagement and Communications’ programs and report to the Sustainability Outreach Program Manager.

Working in this role involves public advocacy for sustainability and working with departments and individuals at UVA. Student employees should feel comfortable standing out and reaching out to others. Ideal candidates will be responsible time managers with a passion for sustainability outreach and leadership. - Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Several positions will become open for Fall 2018, with minimum work-time dedicated to be no less than four hours per week. In addition, a required, weekly one-hour meeting will be scheduled during normal business hours. Student Employees can work up to 20 hours a week. Student employees work in teams to coordinate major university-wide outreach events and identify new and creative programming to increase sustainability awareness.
