Ethan enjoys collaborative approaches to solving sustainability challenges. He oversees the implementation of the UVA Green Building Standards as a framework for promoting healthy, comfortable, and efficient buildings across Grounds. He leads the Decarbonization Academy, bringing together students, faculty, and staff on projects that directly support sustainability at UVA. He also supports broader climate action planning efforts and teaches a project-based course on decarbonization for first year students. Ethan is a licensed professional engineer and a double Hoo with degrees in civil engineering and environmental science from UVA as well as a degree in sustainable design from Stanford University. Ethan also supports broader industry initiatives aimed at decarbonizing the built environment through participation in ASHRAE Standards committees and the MEP 2040 Advisory Committee.
