Grounds as a Living Lab

Connecting academics and operations is a unique strength of higher education’s ability to lead and innovate sustainability solutions.  At UVA, faculty, students, and staff are partnering on experiential projects in several courses to connect global ideas to local implementation.  This Grounds as a living lab approach strengthens both curricula as well as engagement and stewardship of our Grounds.

Climate Action & Energy

In 2011, the University set a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 25% below 2009 levels by 2025. We achieved that goal in 2019, six years ahead of schedule, and are now aiming to be carbon neutral by 2030 and fossil free by 2050.
